Aboriginal Cutmores

Around 1854, Will and John Basham migrated from Poslingford in Suffolk UK to Australia. Amongst the descendants of this family was one Arthur Cutmore. Arthur ran a carrying business in Barraba. One of his employees was an aborigine called Peter. Peter and his young lady wanted to get married in the local church. However, he was required to have a last name before he could do this and so asked his boss, Arthur, if he could use his surname, Cutmore. Arthur agreed and so Peter became Peter Cutmore.

I am now fortunate enough to be in contact with some of Peters descendants, namely Valerie, Rebecca and Tania. Thanks Ladies I hope you are all keeping well.
